What we do

At the Conservancy, we believe that a thriving community starts with a deep connection to nature. Our work spans conservation, education, agriculture, and recreation, all designed to foster a healthier, more sustainable way of life. From protecting vital habitats to cultivating local food systems, we are dedicated to nurturing both the land and the people who call this community home. Whether you’re joining us on the trails, at the farm, or during one of our many programs, you’ll find opportunities to engage, learn, and grow. Discover how each of our initiatives contributes to a shared vision of stewardship and connection.

The Millican Reserve Land Conservancy is the steward of up to 1,000 acres of open space (to be progressively dedicated as the Millican Reserve community develops), set aside primarily for conservation, recreation, education, and agricultural uses. Its location within the extra-territorial jurisdiction of College Station, Texas, makes it an important resource in protecting and enhancing the region’s natural, agricultural and scenic environments.

The Conservancy pursues educational programming and other initiatives throughout the year for the benefit of the Brazos Valley community.

SUPPORT AND ENGAGE WITH NATURE

The Conservancy conducts programs centered around land conservation and wildlife management. We offer outdoor environmental education programs for all ages to cultivate citizen stewardship, environmental literacy and a healthy connection to the natural world. Partnering with other nonprofits, we aim to facilitate informed decision-making and inspire people to become lifelong advocates for environmental sustainability and conservation.

Agriculture

HEALTHY NUTRITION FROM THE LAND

In support of our mission, the Conservancy pursues sustainable farming practices to enhance the ecological, agricultural and social resources of the land and integrate them into the life of the community. We conduct regular farm educational tours, and farm volunteer hours encourage teenagers, adults, and adults with their children to engage hands-on and learn about sustainable agriculture and food production. Our working farm and community gardens at Millican Reserve are part of our vast outdoor classroom that educates and engages our community around the health-giving aspects of nature.

Health & Recreation

FINDING NATURE ON THE TRAILS

The Conservancy’s outdoor recreational programs and events enrich a sense of community and health, and help our members become confident and proficient in nature exploration. Mountain biking, trail running, equestrian activities, summer camp, and other recreational activities are part of the outdoor experience. We make significant investments in the construction and management of our private trail system at Millican Reserve which plays an integral part in supporting our healthy community.
