In this class, participants will explore how to successfully start seeds indoors and prepare healthy, vigorous transplants for the garden. The workshop will combine classroom discussion with practical demonstrations on equipment setup, lighting, soil mixes, and transplanting techniques. 

Topics include: 

• Choosing the Right Seeds: Understanding varieties that perform best when started indoors vs. direct-seeded. 

• Soil Mixes and Containers: Explore the best soil media, trays, pots, and blocks for seedling health and root development. 

• Lighting and Temperature: Learn how to use grow lights and heat mats to optimize germination and growth. 

• Watering and Fertility Management: How to avoid damping-off and promote strong growth through consistent care. 

• Transplanting and Hardening Off: Prepare seedlings for a successful transition to outdoor conditions. 

• Timing for Success: Determine the right schedule for seed starting based on local frost dates and crop needs. 

This class is perfect for home gardeners, community garden participants, and small-scale growers who want to take their seed starting to the next level. 

Parking
Please use the Farm Entrance to Millican Reserve (19851 FM 2154). Designated parking is at the Basecamp grassy area. You MAY NOT PROCEED past the Farm area in your vehicle.
