Event: Gardening 101: Fall Preps and Planning

Set your garden up for a successful cool season with Gardening 101: Fall Preps and Planning at The Farm at Millican Reserve! This workshop will guide you through essential fall gardening tasks and strategies to maximize yields and improve soil health through the changing seasons.  Participants will learn: 
  • Fall Crop Planning: What to plant and when, based on Texas climate and zone-specific timing. 
  • Soil Prep & Mulching: How to amend, aerate, and protect your soil ahead of fall plantings. 
  • Succession Planting & Overwintering: Strategies to transition from summer to fall crops and keep your garden productive through the winter. 
  • Season Extension Techniques: Use row covers, low tunnels, and other methods to extend your growing season. 
  • Cleanup & Infrastructure Review: Learn best practices for end-of-summer maintenance and prepping garden structures for cooler months. 
  Whether you're preparing a fall vegetable bed or planning ahead for overwintering success, this class will give you the tools to enter autumn with confidence and clarity.   Parking  Please use the Farm Entrance to Millican Reserve (19851 FM 2154). Designated parking is at the Base Camp grassy area. You MAY NOT PROCEED past the Farm area in your vehicle.  All outdoor events are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
